Terms of use

By using PlainTotal you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Estimates, not quotes

Everything this site produces is a modeled estimate. It is not a quote, a bid, an appraisal, or a guarantee of price. Estimates are generated from published statistics and documented assumptions, applied to the limited information a web form can capture.

Real costs depend on conditions no calculator can observe: the state of your roof deck, your electrical panel, your soil, local code requirements, market conditions, and the judgement of the contractor doing the work. Actual prices may differ substantially, in either direction, from any figure shown here.

Not professional advice

Nothing on this site is legal, financial, engineering, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, structural, or construction advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional. Do not make structural, electrical, mechanical, or safety decisions based on these figures.

Always obtain written quotes from appropriately licensed and insured contractors, and verify permit and code requirements with your local building department before commencing work.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to interfere with, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the service.
  • Scrape or bulk-extract content in a way that burdens the service.
  • Present output from this site to third parties as a professional quote, appraisal, or certified estimate.
  • Interact with advertising other than as a genuinely interested user.

Intellectual property

The calculators, written content, design, and code are the property of PlainTotal. Underlying federal statistical data is a work of the United States government and is in the public domain; our compilation, normalisation, and presentation of it are not.

You may share links freely and quote briefly with attribution. You may not republish calculators or datasets wholesale without permission.

Availability

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it at any time.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, PlainTotal is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, savings, data, or opportunity, arising from your use of this site or reliance on any estimate it produces.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the date above reflects the current version. Continued use after a change indicates acceptance.
