Home Improvement Cost Calculators
What a project costs depends far more on where you live and what condition your house is in than on any national average. These calculators build an estimate from your actual measurements and published labor rates for your state, and show every line that went into the number.

Painting inside, or outside
The two jobs share a name and almost nothing else. Interior work is priced by wall area and coats; exterior work is priced by siding type, height, and prep, and the labor rate is not the same trade.

- Exterior paintingEstimate the cost to paint the outside of your house by siding type, condition, and storeys, with painter wages for your state and preparation costed separately.

How these estimates are built
Labor is the largest line in almost every home project, so it comes from Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data for the specific trade in your state — roofers for a roof, painters for paint — rather than a national construction blend. Material quantities are worked out from your measurements, including waste factors.
Where no public agency publishes what a calculation needs, we say so plainly and label the figure as an assumption rather than dressing it up as sourced. Every result shows its own provenance, and our full method is documented.
