Report incorrect data
Corrections are genuinely welcome, particularly from people who buy these materials or bid this work for a living. A number you can challenge with a real invoice is worth more to us than a hundred pageviews.
What is most useful to report
- A material price that is well off what suppliers actually charge in your area.
- A labor figure that does not reflect what the trade really bills.
- An estimate that came out far from a real quote you received.
- A stale dataset — a newer BLS or EIA release we have not picked up.
- A permit or code assumption that is wrong for your jurisdiction.
- A factual error in any methodology or guidance text.

What happens next
- We check the report against the source data and our stated assumptions.
- If a published dataset is stale, we refresh it and bump its version — usually quick.
- If one of our assumptions is wrong, we correct it, bump the assumptions version, and record it in the changelog. Results change from that point forward.
- If the difference is real but explained by something the calculator cannot see, we usually improve the wording so the next person is not surprised.
Corrections that move results are recorded, so an estimate can always be traced to the model version that produced it. See the editorial policy.
Before you write
It may be worth checking the methodology first. Some apparent errors are deliberate modelling choices we have explained there — the most common being that the low and high columns in a breakdown do not sum to the headline range.
